A good photo gives a good impression

We do not always do our art justice when promoting it on the internet, often the depth of the image does not reflect the true essence of the painting so getting the best image of your art work possible is important.
I am lucky to have a friend that is a photographer and he has taken some shots of my recent work which I am sharing with you now. I am very happy they reflect my work wonderfully.

My lovely birdy is winging it way to Melbourne where it will take up it's new residence with very happy owners Trish and Mik along with the other paintings of mine they own. It is always nice to make sales and know some is going to enjoy the painting for many years to come.

A great night was had by all, the paintings that didn't sell are now at home or in Texas, timing for an Art Exhibition in Toowoomba was not good, with the floods hitting three days after it opened and our City went into shock.
A lot of people came in and expressed rave reviews which is always good, a lot of businesses in Toowoomba are suffering after the floods, I do hope this changes soon.

In the mean time I continue to paint, cause that is what I do and love to do. Enjoy come visit my art at redbubble.

It has been some time since I blogged, there has been so much happeing in my City and I have gone through a wide range of emontions. I thought is best to be in a more stable place before I shared with you.

Friday the 7th Of Jan 2011 My Exhibition Simply Tropical opened, there were lots of friends and supporters there and it was great. The art work was well received and I felt very positive about the show being a success.

Monday the 10th Of Jan 2011 our City was hit with a freak of nature that flooded and damaged parts of the city and sadly took the lives of some of our people. Everyone was in shock, everyone was affected in some way, it got worse this storm water raged into the towns below the Toowoomba range and created havoc, we are all still realing from this, recovery in these towns will take a long time, some may never recover. Toowoomba City is still showing signs of destruction as you drive around there is still alot of cleaning up to be done.

While the Gallery where my art is was spared from flooding the atmosphere that remains in the City are not one of "shopping' for art. So it has been quiet, and understandably so.

Saturday the 22nd Of Jan I was lucky enough to have a sotry and some photo's in our local paper, we are hoping that during the last week of the Exhibition people may want to come out take a look and enjoy some brightness after all we have all been through...

The Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday 10 am till 2 pm...My show comes down on
Friday the 27th at 2pm and then I take it out to Texas Queensland for 6 weeks, so people come on down take a look and enjoy, remember 10% of sales go to the local Grantham Flood appeal...

I will down there today Sunday the 23rd from 11 am until 1 pm, so come say hi...

Enjoy the images above as I enjoyed painting them all and I am happy to say we have had sales of paintings, plates and vases. Thank you to those that have supported me in this, it is my business and one I aim to build on by doing classess, These will hopfully be starting at the end of Feb 2011 so watch this space.

Happy New Year 2 Exhibitions to start the year rolling and One Sale already

I have two Solo Exhibitions to start the New Year with, and I am so happy about this.

Simply Tropical starts on Friday night the 7th of Jan at 6.30pm at the Kath Dickson Community Art Gallery at 359 Ruthven Street Toowoomba, this will run until the 27th of Jan. Opening times Wed-Sat 10 am till 2pm

From there I will take other art works out to Texas Queensland where I have been invited to display a collection of my works for sale. There is no set theme for this, it will be a collection of new and previous works, the ones I have held onto as they are special yet I am now ready to sell. So I hope and pray the rain slows up soon so I am able to make the trip out there safely.

At the end of last year I thought I would give my painting away for a year, take some time out and just be, I then received a call to help support the Kath Dickson Community Art Gallery, sold 8 cards on red bubble and got the call for the Texas exhibition, so I went with it and my heart soared, as I do love my painting so much, my dream of finding a gallery to sell my work full time is still there and I feel all of this is leading to that point.

We often have to follow the doors the universe opens for us and forget the logic, if for no other reason than belief and trust that our dreams are possible and that we deserve the goodness that comes from following these dreams, even if they take a little longer to come to the fore than we hoped.

My Uncle (who is wheel chair bound) has as his email signature. Never give up, you don't know what tomorrow will bring! I love this and think we should never give up, if you fall, dust yourself of and try again, and again, cause you never know what tomorrow will bring, it reminds me of a story of the gold miner, who sold his mine when he thought the gold had run out, the guy who bought it(very cheaply) got an expert to do some tests and what they showed were a rich gold seam worth millions, and it was only 3 days digging from where the previous owner had stopped.

So remember we could all be only 3 days away from our dreams, Never give up....

I have made a sale even before my show has been hung, using todays methods of promoting and comunicating I have let others out there in our world see what I will be displaying here in Toowoomba and one of these people happens to be a big fan of my work...so read on

This painting is an Acrylic on canvas, textured with Dulux Acrylic house paint in a red base, I have just uploaded it to my facebook page and I am very pleased to say "Resting" has sold to an Art collector in Melbourne, this person has bought several of my paintings over the last couple of years and I just received a call from her to say she would like to buy it.

I am really proud to have made a sale and still be able to include this in my "Simply Tropical" Exhibition, this way I can let other clients know I can take commissions to do something similar for them if they want.

Congrats Trish, I know you will enjoy and bless you for not only being a wonderful supporter of my art, you are also a great friend, I must seriously get down to hold a home exhibition in Melbourne, we have the works we have the venue, we have the wonderful caterer Mik, now we just need me down there....working on this one...for this year...promise...

I end this blog post saying I am really proud of myself for achieving my goals I set for this exhibiton, for having great support from my children, my friends and that I look forward to having my friend and fellow artist Anna Bartlett (also a blogger) open my show, the one thing that would top it of is if my other wonderful art soul sister could be with us, the amazing and ever creative Nic Hohn...I know that she will be with us in heart, and when the red dots appear she will do the Happy Dance with us...cheers to you all. Sneak Peak at Simply Tropical art works

Here a two of my new works created for my Simply Tropical Art Exhibition

opening on the 7th Of Jan, to be held at the Kath Dickson Community Art Gallery in Toowooba. No titles yet, that will come when I do up the price stickers, the top painting is Acrylic on canvas and the bottom is oil. Both by me, both different. And I love them both.

I have had a lot of fun creating new works, playing with new styles, some old traditional oils have been created as well, I won't share all just yet, would like people to see them in the flesh so to speak.

Having time of from work and being able to paint, laze around in between and catch up on a bit of house work ( not a lot) has been so great, I feel like I have had a holiday.

On a sad note, I had a glimpse of how the Queenslanders that are being made to leave their homes due to the floods feel today, I ventured up to my "storage shed" and discovered over 30 canvases ruined by the rain, it has been so heavy and so long that the shed sprung several leaks, so thi morning in the sunshine I loaded up my car and took them to the dump. I was sad throwing these away yet was reminded how lucky I am that it is only "stored" canvases and not all my house hold treausers like the flood victims will have to face when they get home.

Sometimes we are forced to have a clean out and when I really think about it, I had been holding on to these canvases, just in case, I needed them, well I don't and like many things we tend to hang on to I am freer without them, free to create New work, not revisit old "Stuff" and that is a great feeling, bring on all the new for the New Year.

Where do you hang on to "old" stuff that you can really do with out? I know as the New Year gets closer I am reading a book to quit smoking, the best Christmas gift I received from my lovely Brother who as an ex chain smoker after reading this, there is hope for me. Bring on 2011 and all the good things.

Be blessed, be happy and Create because you love it and be grateful for all the good things in life no matter how small they may seem. Today I am yet again grateful for another sunny day, it let me clean up and let go of the old and my paintings are dry.

Drying Chaos, work and play

Ok it has been raining hard and forever down here, I am trying to get work dry my art exhibition which opens on the 7th Of Jan 2011, yep just over a week away, on top of that there is the washing to get dry, never ending cycle, while our dams need the topping up and we are far better of than a lot of other Aussies at present I would like to ask the rain to go away and stay away for at least two weeks, to give every one time to catch up and dry out.
Here is a sneak peak at the works spread out drying, along with the laundry basket...lol

I do hope where ever you are, you are safe, dry and sound, will keep you updated on the works when the sun comes out and I can get some good shots...

Solo Exhibition x 2

Well the New Year is just about here and I have found myself having not one but two Solo Exhibitions to start the year of. I do hope it is a good sign, as I have been busy creating new works for both of these Exhibitions and loving it.
I don't have any images to share yet as I am waiting for the sun to come out long enough to set up a good photographic moment.
I am also hoping all the new works dry in time to hang.
My first Exhibition is called Simply Tropical and is a fun, light hearted one based on all things beachy, being a beach babe at heart I have had lots of fun with this one. This will be held in Toowoomba from the 7th of Jan until the 28th.

From their I head to Texas Queensland, for an exhibition, I think this one will be called, From Beach to Bush and all in between and will be a collection of new and not so new work. It will show case all my styles and themes and I am sure will brighten up the lovely town of Texas.

I hope to get some sunshine over the Chritmas break to show you all, till then have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year,

One of my most recent paintings created for the Downlands Art Exihibition, recently held in Toowoomba, a new style for me and one I am very proud of, combining texture, limited colour palette and a more abstract way of presenting a painting. In this piece I allowed the combination of colour, texture and movment to create a story, whilst encouraging the viewer to complete the story with their interpretaion of what was in the painting. I look forward to your comments on this one.

Alley Cats playing Hide and Seek

Can you see the cats at play?

Two new works of art that I created using limited colour palette and using a house paint scraper to apply the paint. I allowed them to dry and then with Desert Dwellers I applied acrylic black gloss house paint with a knitting needle in drizzles trying to create human shapes, I allowed it to run and form it's own final shapes. I like the finished result, the brightness and intensity of colour contrasting with the black is very striking.

Alley Cats is created in the same method and when finished I could see the orange cats playing within the painting, I love this style of work, it draws the viewer in, makes them look and see what more they can see within the painting.

Daisy makes her first appearance....just testing the waters...

Well here she is, not sure the colours from the camera are just right, may have to do some adjustments, however here it is the first of the Daisy series ( can't believe I said that word, lol gaspping here Anna!!)

This painting is Lazy Daisy, and was fun to create, being a beach babe at heart, I enjoy painting the ocean and has lots of fun creating this one, with lots of texture and a play on words, poor Lazy Daisy, she doesn't even have bait on her hook, don't think she cares though she is really enjoying her moment....

Wonderful Weekend Workshop May

Here is the wonderful women for the weekend workshop I taught at Texas qld May 15th and 16th.These wonderful artists created some very creative artworks using new skills I taught them, they embraced these skills and new tools and really painted from their hearts. Thank you ladies for the most fab weekend, I look forward to returning again and the exhibition next year.

The start of one of the weekends creations, scrapings of paint, stencilling, laying of papers, then the fun of building up the painting.

This is the finished painting, the image is a little dark, sorry but the painting was not, I think you will agree this is great and the artist was more than impressed, as was I.

Talented Artist's of Texas embrace Kym Breeze's art class

On the weekend I had the wonderful opportunity of turtoring an amazing group of talented women artist's in Texas qld.
I went well prepared to be able to either teach traditional or in my mixed media style, not really knowing the background of the artist's. What I found when I arrived was a mixed group of artist's in their styles and experience, the thing they had in common was they love their art and they were there to learn, as well as being a group of friends.
I went with my plan and we created some mix media paintings, utilizing papers, glazes, drizzling with my fav Dulux Arcylic house paint, stencilling and lots of hands on work.
There were one or two ladies that were a little hesitant at getting their fingers into the paint at first, however by the end of the weekend they were happily pushing paint around the canvas with their fingers and other tools.
I can safely say the Hardware store at Texas will no longer be a man's domain, as these artist's will now be looking with a new eye at the "tools" they can use to create art with.

I am feeling fantastic after this weekend, not only did these artist's connect with their inner artist and allow their creations to come from within, they created some of the most amazing art from the simple tools of play and a new knowledge of working with Acrylic paints.

We did do a little theory on colour mixing and tonal values, the main thing we achieved was stunning art work, and the wonderful feedback I received as a tutor has opened me up to endless possibilites for future growth as an art tutor.

These wonderful Texas artist's have given me a great gift, they have invited be back to have an exhibition next year and would love another art class again soon, so I thank them, and to top it of they feed me well with some good home cooking, I was in heaven, art, good company and lots of good food what more could a girl want.

Happy Mothers Day

My Eldest son is now working and with that comes the joy of being able to buy me a mothers day present. Knowing how much I love flowers this is the beautiful bunch I received. To see his pride at being able to go and do this is, is what being a mum is all about, bringing them up to the best of our ability, giving them a sense of self worth and allowing them to express it. I am so proud of both of my boys, they are growing into wonderful young men. As a mother I could want for nothing more.

Today we go to football as my youngest plays in the Toowoomba rep side then we will go for lunch afterwards. My mum will join us so we all get to spend the day together enjoying each others company.

Happy mothers day to all the mums out there, enjoy.

Creating for the simple sake of creating

Spending the weekend painting was wonderful what was even more enjoyable was I worked on art I wanted to create, I played with textures, softer colours and varied my brush strokes, letting loose. I had a picture in my minds eye and I clearly achieved the result I wanted. It was freeing to paint this way, with no event to have to paint for. I am proud to say I will be entering this new painting in the up coming Downlands Exhibition in July, it is so nice to have something special ready to go...Now for a title....

During this time I came up with another painting and created a character I will be introducing to you soon.

"Daisy" in this painting Daisy is being Lazy, the idea to develop a series (if Anna reads this she will be laughing with Glee, long story but Nic is in on the joke)

Any way the Daisy series will develop with Daisy in some wonderful ways and as the story unfolds I will bring Daisy to you.

I am waiting on a new camera lens, so images may take some time to arrive, until then Daisy will be waiting to met you.

House Boat

While crusing the Noosa river a couple of weeks ago we saw some amazing boats and houses along the way, the type dreams are made of.

Then we saw this little House Boat, I think it represents the ultimate combination of a house and boat in quirky way, very cute.

Not sure I would like to live in it full time all the same..... I did see some stunning homes that I would love to live in, being a beach babe at heart I would so love to live closer to the ocean and beach, my goal and my dream...for now though I enjoy my trips up to the Sunshine Coast.....cheers

Sold Blue Yonder Grammar Art Show

The Annual Grammar Art Show was held last weekend, opening night was great I got to catch up with friends and fellow artist's, see what wonderful work was being produced and offered for sale.

My art was hung in a good spot this year and right next to me was my dear friend and fellow artist Nich Hohn, whilst Nic was busy in Melbourne being hung beside each other made me feel like she was there in spirit.

Anna Bartlett and her mum Diana Battle were both there, it was wonderful to catch up with these two very lively ladies and view their new art works.

When I went to collect my two pieces on the Sunday afternoon I was pleased to see one had sold. I love my art work, love creating it and love it when someone else feels strong enough to buy it. I am sure the new owners will enjoy this piece for a long long time.

I also had the chance to catch up with a ladies who owns a mixed media piece of mine contating musical notes and instruments, he son won this in a fund raising raffle, she told me how much they all love looking into the painting as each time they do they see something new. He son is very musical and she told me each day he remembers what I told him about following your dreams, so he pracitices daily in front of his painting.

It is nice to know he enjoys my art work on many levels, for that is the goal of an artisit, to bring inspiration and joy to others by our creativity.

I wish you all magic in your creations, no matter what it is.

"Safe" A piece created for a competition, the need for good photo's

Creating a good photo of your art work can be hard, I did this painting specifically for an Art Cricket competition in September, had so much fun creating this as it is so different from my usual style, I played on the bronzed Aussie theme, playing beach cricket, keeping it fun and simple and including things which I felt were relevant to the theme.

Sadly my photo skills let me down some as I lost the greens in my ocean and hence the sky and water look very similar and no where as vibrant as it does in real life.

I took over a hundred shots of this painting in various lights, various angles, and still couldn't get it quite right.

I still sent the entry in, I didn't make the cut for the 32 selected out of close to 300 entries, yet I was happy because I committed to entering this comp and doing a painting in a different style to my usual. It is good to push yourself and do something different and yes I will be doing another entry for this years comp, I already have a theme to work on and this year I am going to ask my photographer friend to take the shot for me, I am learning the hard way that it is ok to ask for help.

Today being Australia day I thought it a good time to post this painting.

Beginnings of an abstract

Over the years I have created some wonderful paintings in many styles, Abstract has not been a huge draw for me yet every now and then I get the urge to go with the flow and working with colours I am drawn to on the day and a paint scraper I apply the paint to the canvas and blend them through each other while keeping the colours fairly pure using the scraper to go in different directions.

Once the back ground colours are in place I will place the canvas away from me and look into the shapes and forms created by this blending of colour, letting the shapes come out, letting the images within this tell me the story, sometimes this happens very quickly other times I will rotate the canvas several times before I can see something within..

This is the beginning of such an abstract, already I can see shapes and images within this painting and now the challenge is to pull it all together so that the shapes tell a story, I am posting this for you to take a look at see what you can see. The sotry that is unfolding to me from within this abstract is very interesting,

I look forward to your comments on this, in the meantime I will continue to work the shapes using tonal values and adding highlights to bring them all together.....this is a challenge and a great learning for me to let go and keep working on this to create a piece of work that I am happy with.

Texture colour movement the makings of All A Flutter

Creating something from nothing.

This is a close up section of All A Flutter, a painting that recently sold from Downlands Art Show, this canvas had been sitting in my art room for some time and I felt I could not resovle it and create something from the textures and tones that I had placed on the canvas with a set result in mind, so it sat there. Having a clean out of old canvases I had this one tagged for the dump, until a girlfriend of mine saw it and said Wow I like this, I then stepped back and looked at it with a different perspective, I could see how it was a "nice" blend of colours, textures and tones, yet to me it needed something to complete the picture. She said you can do this Kym you can work through whatever block you have and make this a great painting.

So letting go of how I wanted it to look, I allowed the true creative self emerge from within and went with the flow, I had some well preserved butterflies that I photocopied and collaged onto the canvas, then I had gold, some more colour and flicks, after sealing the butterflies I painted in some details and highlighted parts of their wings.

When I stood back and looked into this painting, the title All A Flutter came to me, 2009 had been a bitter sweet year for my family and me, so I guess it represented that, I was happy with the painting yet something else was needed to finish it, I found a short verse about a butterfly fluttering here and there, resting on the hand, flapping it's wings to say hello and goodbye, and knew I had what I needed to complete the painting.

At the Art Exhibition I had rave reviews from fellow artists and art clients and I am proud to say this sold for a very good price.

The moral of the story to me is that sometimes we need someone elses help to open our eyes to see the potential in our projects, also the big thing for me was learning to let go and trust that I had what it took to complete this painting to push through the blocks whatever they may be.

How many canvases of the past have vanished into the trash, when maybe they could have been treasures? I will not know, one thing is for sure if in doubt I will ask for another opinion before recycling my art works. And I will give myself time and freedom to truly create great art.

I work in layers and layers of glazing, using a clear painting medium, this builds up a luminous quality and gives a depth to the colours used while allowing the colours underneath to glow through.

I love painting these dragon flies and I am happy to say they sell really well, each one created is different from the other, they all have their own special glow.

Artist Palette Magazine feature

Issue 82 of Artist Palette is due out late Jan 2010 and I am proud to say that I will be freatured in this editon along with a step by step demo creating one of my very popular mixed media pieces.

This is a goal I have worked towards and I am very proud, yet some what nervous to see this article in print.

As 2009 draws to a close and I leave behind a bitter sweet year I look forward to achieving the new goals set for the new year. This goals are written down in my newly created journal and as I set to achieve them in the coming year I also have time for refelction on the results of this last year.

Some goals were reached, some were not, so in looking closely at those that I reached out for and missed, I have to consider if they were really that important at that time.

When setting goals we have to place the stepping stones there to reach them, it is not often we can just leap to the end result, I can see I missed a few important steps, and my motiviation to aim for these goals were not true to my nature, so this week I will fill in the missing steps, and aim truly for the end result.

I hope that this article in the Artist Palette will help me reach those goals, in the following edition (83 Feb 2010) there will be an advertisment for my art works along with contact details, this will open many new doors which I am willing to walk through. Taking my art to the next level and getting my work out there viewing by a wider audience is something I have been working towards for a couple of years now, slow steady steps have bought me here to the place I want to be.

I have neglected this blog for years, I am back now and hope to establish new contacts to share this amazing art journey with.

My friends and fellow bloggers Nic Hohn and Anna Bartlett have great blogs that I will link up soon, just have to get back in practice with blogging.

I look forward to the all the wonderful things 2010 will bring my way, and my wish for you is that all your dreams will come true as well.

This painting is one of my very latest and one that I am very proud of, it contains many many layers of coloured acrylic glazes, collaged with tissue paper, gauzes and it is the second in a series of four all based on my childhood memories of time spent swimming and snorkeling in New Guinea. This one is called "Clowning around" and is for sales. $660.

here are some new paintings that were created for the crea8 art show last weekend.
I work in many layers and these new paintings were done very simply, a few coats of paint and I found the whole experience to be a great learning curve for me.
I hope you enjoy them they are very different from my previous nudes.
I call them my funky chicks....

Hello and welcome, I have been very busy with my painting and working with Nic Hohn and Anna Bartlett on our crea8 exhibition. We had a photo day the other day and spent a lot of time laughing, it was great for the soul. It seems I have a problem in front of the camera of keeping my eyes and mouth open at the same time, so there were a lot of shots that were not very flattering, but it kept us amused for some time... Chocolate Cottage

Hello to you all and Happy Easter, on Thursday myself and three other female artists are painting at the Chocolate Cottage, Highfields, Toowoomba. We will be there from 10.00am till 4.00pm and are painting separate canvases that will co-join at the end by a horizontal white line, we are hoping to use these paintings for prints and postcards and the end, that will retail from this venue. As paint of its charm the Chocolate Cottage has a range of hand painted chairs that the public often wish to purchase, so we girls thought it would be nice to paint some to have for sale. below are photos of the ones I have finished, I am happy they are done and think they look great, see what you think, also here are two new paintings that will be for sale out there for the week, no titles as yet but loving the colours..

Hello and welcome I am finally able to upload some of my art work for you to view I hope you enjoy it as much as I do when creating it. This large canvas started out with thin layers of Acrylic paint, then I added texture with papers and gauze, then more layers of paint. The images of the sea creatures slowly came from within the paintings I just bought them to life by adding more paint and some minor detail. I like to work in layers with my paintings, to slowly let in grow.
I also work in oils and when I do I find I create more realistic works, I will one day try my acrylic style to oils, but as I have several art shows coming up I am busy finishing works for these.

Life is a wonderful journey, it twists and turns in so many ways... Sometimes we have dreams, we wait and pray, then one day out of the blue they happen.....
I am blessed to have the best friends any one could want... I work with good people, I play with good people and I create my art with good people...My exciting news is that today after a lovely day spent with my fellow create artist's Nic Hohn and Anna Barttlet, I am pleased to say we are opening Anna's studio/gallery on a regular basis, this means that we all have a home from where to sell our art.... We as an informal group have held exhibitions there in the past, with a great amount of success, but now we will be opening up and to bring our wonderful art to more people more often....
